Good to know

Mat rules & what to bring

Nothing unusual — the same etiquette you will find in any serious BJJ academy.

What to bring

  • Shorts or leggings without pockets, zips or buttons, and a t-shirt or rash guard.
  • A water bottle and a towel.
  • Flip-flops for walking off the mat.
  • A gi for your first class — we lend you one, in your size, free of charge.

On the mat

  • Clean body, clean gi, nails cut short, long hair tied back.
  • Bare feet on the mat — flip-flops everywhere else.
  • Remove rings, chains, earrings and watches.
  • Tap early and clearly; release immediately when your partner taps.
  • Do not train with a fever, a cold or a skin infection.
  • Quiet while the instructor is explaining. Leave the ego at the door.
